How to Host a Mahjong Night

Mahjong night is part game, part party. Here is a simple checklist for hosting.

1. Set up the table

• One square table per four players.
• A mahjong mat to quiet the tiles.
• Four racks with pushers, two dice and a card for each player.

2. Choose a set that matches the mood

Designer sets double as table decor. Try floral mahjong tiles for a spring luncheon, coastal tiles for summer or Christmas mahjong tiles for the holidays.

3. Easy snacks

Choose finger foods that don't leave greasy hands: cheese boards, fruit, nuts and small desserts. Keep drinks on a side table.

4. Teach beginners
